| NEWS: Drug
users find homes and help in Scotland
The Positive Steps housing programme for vulnerable people is growing faster than ever. Many being housed have had problems with drug dependency, sometimes with HIV as well. Positive Steps takes Housing Association property which is empty and in a bad state, and mobilises volunteers to convert them into bright, comfortable homes. Already more than 70 individuals are being helped, and the vision is to double this soon. Positive Steps has seen their schools programme go from strength to strength with 15 full-time educators working across most areas of Scotland, mainly in secondary schools. They are also working with parents and local communities as well as in prisons, covering sexual health, drugs and alcohol abuse.
