The Kampala office is the headquarters for ACET Uganda. Established in 1990, ACET Uganda's main strength is prevention. ACET teams provide young people and the wider community with AIDS education and work to break down taboos and myths, working in partnership with local churches. ACET Uganda also has care programs (for example see Nakulabye Junior School), as well as strong partnerships with other programme's.
ACET Uganda provides technical advice to other organisations in Uganda and in countries such as Ethiopia, Sudan, Tanzania, Kenya, Malawi, Rwanda, Burundi, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Sierra Leone, in partnership with Tearfund and Christian Aid.
ACET Kitgum is supporting children in danger; especially those who stay in shelters. These children are known as night commuters, as they seek to get away from the threat of being abducted. Many children have been taken into the bush where they are abused by armed gangs, and often forced to shoot others - sometimes to kill members of their own family.
ACET Kitgum is the base for AIDS prevention across Northern Uganda, and has opened a clinic and a 21 bed medical centre with generous funding from Hope HIV. The World Food Programme, Christian Aid and UNICEF have all asked ACET Uganda to urgently expand this vital work in the camps.
