ACET is pleased to announce that Margaret Sentamu and Steve Clifford have agreed to become Patrons of the Charity.
We hope the appointment of Steve and Margaret as patrons, joining Lord Carey of Clifton, will help us to raise the profile of our work to mobilise churches both in the UK and in the 23 countries where we work.
Margaret Sentamu, originally from Uganda, is a member of the Church of England and the Mothers' Union and has a great deal of experience from serving on a number of councils, charities and Trusts. She is committed to the fight against HIV and AIDS and has close experience of its consequences in her native country. She brings a wealth of experience to ACET as a former Senior Selection Secretary (Senior recruitment officer) for the Church of England, and from her time in the private sector as a diversity and recruitment consultant.
“I am particularly concerned at the spread of HIV and AIDS throughout the world, but especially in poorer communities. I am very interested in health and educational matters, and in the alleviation of poverty wherever it exists. I hope I can be of use to ACET in its very important work.”
Steve Clifford is also a vastly experienced Christian leader and has recently taken up the position of General Director of The Evangelical Alliance, where he was previously a board member. Steve was Chair of Hope 08 and Soul Survivor (an international youth ministry) and has been involved in the creation of many exciting Church campaigns in recent years. He believes that the Gospel calls for action of the sort that ACET is involved in.
“ACET is a huge force for change in the world, impacting thousands of lives every year. I hope more churches in the UK will grasp the opportunity to take the lead in this life-transforming work, following the example of congregations throughout Europe, Asia and Africa.”
ACET works in 23 countries throughout the world, offering a compassionate Christian response to those infected and affected by HIV and AIDS.
Peter Fabian, Chief Executive of the organisation, said, “The work of ACET is not widely known in the UK and I am delighted that Steve and Margaret have joined us as we seek to mobilise more churches to tackle this global pandemic.”
