Anele (his name means “Enough” in English) was 4 months old when I met him in July 2005. His mother had died when he was 1 month old and a relative had taken him in. ACET Zimbabwe provided food and care and he was a different person when I met him again this year. Anele in 2005 and Anele 2009 Linette was a home based care (HBC) patient I visited in January 2007. She was barely able to walk then, and I thought she’d be dead very soon. ACET Zimbabwe got her to hospital and she was put on anti retroviral drugs (ARVs). This time, she came out to greet me with a big smile on her face when we arrived at the support group she’s part of. I didn’t recognise her! You begin to understand why ARVs are called “the Lazarus effect”. Linette in 2007 with Wendy Philips and Linette in 2009 To find out more about the work of ACET Zimbabwe click here |
