ACET Russia, led by Marek Slansky, offers education and training in this vast country where rates of HIV are rising rapidly, often spread by drug abuse and risky life styles.
ACET Russia trains church leaders and offers resources to all the major denominations in the country. In addition, church members from around Russia are being trained to offer HIV prevention education in schools, orphanages, youth groups and prisons.
Thousands of young people have heard teaching on sex and relationship education across Russia, helping them to make safe and informed choices.
The recent AIDS statistics show that the number of new HIV infections is growing in Russia. In the same time we have indicators from several cities (Togliatti Samara, Perm, Orsk) there are no new HIV infections have been registered from the beginning of 2008 among teenagers aged 15-18. Doctors are very surprised by it and they say it is probably because of successful AIDS prevention work done in the schools by NGOs (including ACET) and teachers. In all those cities our ACET educators have been providing AIDS prevention work for several years. We cannot say that these excellent results are just the result of ACET prevention. but this is a big change compared to the past when many teenagers have been infected
